The schedule from the general contractor shows the opening of the new bridge and Admirals Road between Island Highway and Gorge Road to vehicle traffic in mid-May 2014. Unknown factors such as weather conditions have been taken into consideration in the schedule.
The east side of the bridge is now open to pedestrians and cyclists; the temporary pedestrian crossing on the west side of the bridge has been removed.
Next steps in the bridge construction, which need to be completed before the bridge can be safely opened to traffic, include the removal of the temporary work bridge, installation of railings and lighting on the west side of the bridge, deck sealing, and line painting.
Construction on Admirals Road from Gorge Road to Cowper Street, as well as Gorge Road from Admirals Road to Tillicum Road, has been completed ahead of schedule.
The Project Team is working diligently to expedite the completion of the bridge to restore traffic flow.
The completion date for the entire project (which includes completion of final civil works and landscaping after the road is opened), remains at mid-June 2014.
